Description

Capitol Hill's legendary Black chef James (Jimmy) Lee made the best Bread Pudding I have ever eaten. Although he passed September 21st, 1995, his legend lives on in this wonderful, timeless dessert.

Ingredients

  • 3 Eggs (Beaten)
  • 1 1⁄2 c Sugar
  • 2 T Brown Sugar (Light or Dark)
  • 1 T Vanilla Extract
  • 1⁄2 t Nutmeg
  • 4 T Butter (Melted)
  • 3 c Heavy Cream
  • 1 ds Yellow Food Coloring (optional)
  • 4 c Cubed Day-Old White Bread
  • 3⁄4 c Raisins

Instructions

Combine eggs, sugars vanilla and nutmeg. Add melted butter, then cream, then coloring and mix well. Stir in cubed bread and raisins and let stand 10 to 15 minutes.

Pour into well-greased deep pan or casserole. Bake at 375° 45 to 60 minutes, until golden brown.

Can be served with Butter Vanilla Sauce.

Notes

(Some consider the sauce optional… but not me!)

WTF?

I get a lot of spam comments on my websites (including possibly the one below) which I typically delete. This one confused me, so rather than deleting it I figured I would post it in hopes that the original author would comment again explaining its relevance. Of course, considering the author was A) too chicken to include his/her real email address, and B) not bright enough to understand this was a recipe listing that returned on his/her Google search... well, let's just say I won't be holding my breath for a reply.
